Making metal charms

Step 1
Insert a round metal bead of 4mm on a head pin. Using chain nose pliers, fold the wire at a 90-degree angle, as illustrated.

Step 2
Measure until approximately at 1cm from the bead, then cut any excess wire. Using round nose pliers, hold the end of the head pin and twist it to form a loop.

Repeat these steps to make 3 other identical charms as well as another 4 charms made with round metal beads of 6mm.

Note:Keep any excess from head pins to make the glass bead charms.

Making glass charms

Step 3
Take a piece of head pin then, at about 1.5cm of one of its ends, fold it at a 45-degree angle.

Step 4
Insert a glass bead on the shortest part of the rod. Using chain nose pliers, bend the rod upwards at a 45-degree angle, to allow the rod’s ends to cross over the tip of the glass drop. Cut any excess of the shortest piece of rod.

Note:Be careful not to curve the rod inside the bead’s hole as it could exert a pressure on the bead and chip it.

Step 5
Measure about 1cm of the longest rod starting from where the rods meet, then cut any excess. Using chain nose pliers hold the end of the rod and twist it towards the bottom towards the junction of the rods, to form a loop.

Repeat steps 3 to 5 to make the other 5 identical charms.

Putting it all together

Step 6
Using two chain nose pliers, open a jump ring of 7mm. Insert the series of charms as illustrated.

Step 7
Finally, insert in the same ring a long earring hook then, close the ring.

Step 8
Using round nose pliers, slightly close the loop of the earring hook to prevent the ring from sliding off of the earring hook. If needed, using chain nose pliers, straighten horizontally the clasping mechanism of the earring hook.

Repeat steps 6 to 8 to assemble the 2nd earring with the remaining charms.
